Armazém da Cerveja, Porto

Location: Porto, Portugal | Date of visit: June 2024 | Find them on Facebook: Armazem Cerveja

We started the month in Porto and, in between lots of port and wine tastings, we made time to sample some local beers. Two of Portugal’s most popular beers are Super Bock and Sagres, both of which were widely available (and in some bars and restaurants, the only beers available). Fortunately, we were also able to sniff out some local craft beers and a fantastic little craft beer bar called Armazém da Cerveja.

You’d probably walk past Armazém da Cerveja if you didn’t know it was there. From the outside, it doesn’t really book like a bar at all. Inside, however, is a welcoming atmosphere.

The fridges have a great selection of cans and bottles that you drink in our buy to take away.

Behind the bar is a selection of draft beers and the tap handles have been replaced with various beer cans and bottles making it extra quirky. All the beers are listed on the board behind, with the country of origin, style and abv helpfully listed alongside the name.

When you order, you’re given a fob with a number on so you can add any further orders to your tab and pay at the end.

At the back of the bar is a small beer garden with a handful of picnic benches. There’s also a selection of board games if you fancy challenging a mate.

You can tell this bar has been created by people with a passion for craft beer. Even the toilet walls are covered with various beer labels from around the world.

We’d have loved to have stayed longer, but had food plans so we only stayed for two beers.

What we drank

Brewer’s note: Scarlet colour and medium body. Pungent pine, peach and orange scents. Slightly dry and bitter aftertaste. Pure class!
